Michael René Sell (b. 1984, Lebach, Germany) is a multidisciplinary artist based in Vienna. He works with drawing, sculpture, performance, and sound. He is known for developing his own signs, alternative forms of notation, and an independent symbolic language that forms the basis of his work.
At the core of his practice is the development of a self-constructed system of signs in which each element carries a specific meaning. This system follows a consistent internal logic and extends across different media. From this, an ongoing body of work emerges in which signs, forms, and figures are interconnected. The work unfolds within a larger context in which drawings, objects, and notation appear as interrelated elements, often accompanied by sound or spoken text.
Michael René Sell has exhibited at Belvedere 21 in Vienna, Picture Theory in New York, and Cheap Art in Athens, among others. His work is included in the Cserni Collection in Vienna. He also participated in Parallel Vienna in 2024 and 2025.
